May Watts Grade 1 Students Having a Crystal Fair
May Watts Elementary School is excited to announce the 1st Grade Crystal Fair to be held February 7 from 2:45-3:15 in the multi-purpose room. The past couple of weeks, 1st grade students spent time studying crystals and had the opportunity to make their very own crystal geode. With the help of their teachers and parent volunteers and Dr. Tara Bell, students created a crystal solution out of allum and submerged plastic easter eggs in the solution for about a week. They monitored the crystallization process and will examine them with digital microscopes (just like scientists) during the Fair. This project was part of a grant Indian Prairie School District had in 2017 that partnered scientists and engineers with teachers to design classroom projects. Mrs. Brouch participated in this grant and was excited to share it with her first grade team at Watts! It was a sparkling good time!
