Standing & Regular Committees
Ways and Means
This
committee is the fundraising arm of the PTA. Money is raised through the
various programs listed below.

 |
Apparel - coordinates the sale of assorted May Watts apparel
items. These items are selected, ordered, sold and distributed
annually by the apparel committee. |
|
 |
Box Tops for Education - coordinates the collection of box tops from
General Mills products and remittance of the box tops to General
Mills. The school receives funds based on the number of box
tops remitted. |
|
 |
Fun Fair - provides May Watts families with a day of food, fun,
raffles, and games. This committee arranges games, selects food
vendors, and coordinates the large staff of volunteers necessary
to accomplish this major event. |
|
 |
Fall Fundraiser - plans and coordinates the ordering, sale
and distribution of the merchandise sold by students for this
fall fund-raiser. |
|
 |
Market Day - bulk groceries are ordered and then picked up by our
families at school monthly. The committee coordinates the
monthly order forms submitted by students and staff, orders the
groceries, and provides the volunteer force necessary to makes
these groceries available for pick-up one evening a month.

Jewel Days - coordinates schedule of dates for shop and share days
with Jewel Food Stores. Distributes coupons used for shopping
days. The PTA receives a percentage of sales. |
|

Krispy Kreme - coordinates the sale and distribution of Krispy Kreme
certificates and cards. The PTA receives a percentage of sales.

Educational Enrichment
This
committee is the educational arm of the PTA. It oversees various
programs that enhance the curriculum of our students.
|

Art Awareness
- introduces works of art to each classroom
with information, prints and supplies provided by the PTA.
Presentations are made by volunteers four times a year in grades
1-5, and 3 times per year in the Kindergarten classrooms. These
presentations include a history of the artist and their work, a
discussion of the techniques and tools used by the artist, and
unique features of the print being presented. |

Assemblies - Assemblies are planned to enrich our curriculum and are
presented about 5 times throughout the year. Committee members
review potential presenters, and select and coordinate the
programs. |

Kinder Press, 1st Edition, 2nd Edition
- students dictate stories to volunteers in the classroom. The
work is then typed and assembled in a hard cover book for the
children to illustrate. |
|
 |
After School Enrichment - offers courses after school to enrich the
school curriculum. Includes reading, math, science, sports,
games, art, music and foreign language on a tuition basis to
grades K-5. Classes are designed to be less structured than the
traditional classroom setting.

Reflections
- a
cultural arts program which gives students the opportunity to
use their creativity in visual arts, literature, photography and
music. |

Health & Safety
This
committee is responsible for the various PTA programs that provide for
the health and safety of our students.

Too Good For Drugs - assists the T.G.F.D. Officer as needed
throughout that course and helps to plan the student reception
upon completion of the course. |

Helping Hand Program (Crime Prevention Calendar)
- volunteers assist with Helping Hand drive in fall: information
is distributed to parents about the program, new volunteer
applications are forwarded to the Police Department, lists of
approved applicants are kept current, and Helping Hand signs are
distributed to volunteers after their approval. One volunteer
must also attend a fall and a spring meeting at the Naperville
Police Department. |

Star Raiders –
organize the annual WVHS Star Raiders visit to promote a
drug-free lifestyle for students. A snack/small gift is given
to the high school students. |

Red Ribbon - coordinates activities revolving around Red Ribbon week
in October. |
|
 |
Walk-to-School –
attend two Naperville City Planning Commission meetings,
publicize event and create signs/stickers for walkers. Also
plan monthly walk-to-school dates for students.

Service
This
committee is the service arm of the PTA. It oversees the programs that
assist students, parents or staff.
|
 |
Back-to-School Supply Kits
- provides kits including supplies
required by the school and the district for purchase by
students. Duties include selecting the vendor, collecting the
orders and payments and arranging a pick-up day at school.
|
|
 |
Business Partner Liaison
- Coordinates the relationship between the
PTA, school faculty and business partners. The business
partners are companies within our community that promote
educational enrichment within our school. Our current business
partner is Culvers and the Morton Arboretum. |
|
 |
Copy Committee - assists various PTA Committees and Officers
by preparing copies of materials as may be requested on a weekly
basis. Copying time is available in the school office from
12:30-3:30 on Wednesdays. |
|
 |
Directory - designs the format and cover for the annual directory.
|
|
 |
LMC Aides
- assists the LMC Director. Duties include filing,
shelving, typing, poster making and helping students as needed.
|
|
 |
PE
Volunteer Coordinator –
assist PE teacher by arranging for parent volunteers to help with
fall and spring fitness testing and Jump Rope for Heart event. |
|
 |
Popcorn
- prepare and bag popcorn so teachers will be able to
request bags of popcorn for special days. |
|
 |
Project Share - project where our students reach out to
those in need in our community. Volunteers assist on a grade
level basis to select the charitable organization, and to carry
out the work that is chosen by that grade level. |
|
 |
Room Parents - The coordinator is responsible for organizing room
parents, emergency phone tree and distribution of paper goods
for room parties. Room parents assist the teacher throughout the
year with parties (room set-up and clean-up, games, beverage and
treat). Room parents also assist with the calling tree in case
of emergency. |
|
 |
Watts
Up (Newsletter)
- collects information for, writes and edits the PTA newsletter
on a monthly basis. |
|
 |
Welcoming Committee
- welcomes new families by disseminating
information and answering questions about the school.

Social
This
committee is the arm of the PTA that provides fun and entertainment for
our students, staff and parents.

Family Fun Activities
- Coordinates social events for the student
body, staff and their families. |
|
 |
5th Grade Farewell
- the end of the year party for our graduates
is planned by this committee. Members plan food, games and a
farewell gift for the fifth graders and assist at the party
during the last week of school.
|
 |
Ice Cream Social –
plan and coordinate the back-to-school ice cream social held in
August or early September. |
|
 |
Staff Appreciation
- organizes the activities held during one
week in May. A theme for the week is chosen and events are
planned to honor our teachers and staff (including office staff,
custodians, aides and bus drivers). |
|
 |
Teacher Luncheons
- organizes luncheons during the year for
conference or in-service work days. Volunteers pick a theme,
order food and supplies and serve the teachers on the luncheon
day.

Legislation
This
committee is the arm of the PTA that deals with the various legal and
legislative issues that affect our school and PTA.

Chairperson - This board position will review PTA legislative
packets, monitor our school board, encourage PTA convention
attendance and act as liaison with legislative chair people of
other schools. |
 |
IPPC - This representative is the liaison between our PTA Board and
the Indian Prairie Parents council (IPPC), which is the District
PTA board. Responsibilities include attending meetings for both
the IPPC Board and our PTA Board and reporting back to the
general membership. Also takes on other IPPC duties. |

PDAC –
Parent Diversity Advisory Committee is a district sponsored
committee whose mission is to
enhance and enrich achievement for all students by serving as a
district liaison providing educational and cultural resources
for students, families, and staff in meeting their needs to
ensure that curriculum, instruction, educators, and the learning
environment are culturally sensitive and inclusive.
