Principal's News Week of 10.4.21
Immunizations and Exclusions
Below is the district policy regarding the required state of Illinois physical examination and immunizations. Please note that any student who is not compliant with the immunization protocols will be excluded from school on October 15, 2021. Please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Angie Johnson, at 630.428.6705 if you have any questions.
Students entering preschool, kindergarten, sixth, and ninth grades, and new students to the district, must present proof of the required state of Illinois physical examination and immunizations. The student history portion of the examination form must be completed and signed by the parent. If this is not completed, the student will be excluded from school on October 15, 2021. Out-of-state physical examinations written on approved forms, which meet current state of Illinois requirements, are acceptable if they are less than one year old.
An out-of-state transfer student may, at the time of registration, provide an appointment card showing these requirements will be completed within thirty days. At the end of the thirty-day period, if the completed forms have not been presented to health services, the student will be excluded from school.
Intruder Drill Notification
Per the School Safety Drill Act covered under Illinois Statute (105 ILCS 12/20), this notification is being provided to the parents and guardians of our May Watts students. On Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at approximately 2:00 PM, we will conduct a lockdown drill that will include school staff, students, and Naperville law enforcement agency representative(s).
We understand that some parents/guardians may want to opt out of this type of drill for their child. As the parent/guardian of a student attending May Watts, you have the option to exempt your child, for any reason, from the drill. If you choose to exempt your child from the drill, please notify our school secretary, Mrs. Binderup at 630.428.6700 or email@example.com, no later than the day of the drill.
Thank you for your continued support.
Tik Tok Challenge
Below is some information from the district office about recent Tik Tok challenges. Though the Tik Tok application is primarily used by middle and high school students, I felt like it would be beneficial to make our parent population aware of the situation. As of right now, there have been no incidents at May Watts.
We have been made aware that there are more Tik Tok challenges circulating around challenges at school. September’s Tik Tok challenge was all about students vandalizing bathrooms and destroying school property. October’s new challenge is termed “smack a staff member on the backside.” Police are warning students these viral TikTok’s are much more than just challenges. They are criminal offenses as some of these challenges are bordering on assault.
Please speak with your student about the serious nature of these challenges and help educate them that these are not appropriate for school. Any student who chooses to carry out any of these challenges at school will be subject to school and police consequences. If your child has any information on these occurrences at school, please encourage them to speak to me or another trusted adult at school.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter!
Boundary Committee Meeting
The boundary committee will meet on Wednesday, October 27 at 6:30 pm at Still Middle School, located at 787 Meadowridge Drive, Aurora. The committee will continue evaluating various boundary adjustment scenarios. A series of community forums will be held in November to obtain feedback on boundary proposals that are yet to be created. The boundary committee meetings are open to the public for observation only. Public comment is not part of boundary committee meetings. To learn more about the boundary process and to review materials or watch the video from each meeting, visit 2021 Boundary Committee.
